I just finished putting in all of the grades for the first semester. As many of you know (to an infuriating level), I rarely know what grades students have. It's not a huge concern of mine and so I don't spend much time looking at them. I prefer to have an authentic connection with each student based completely on our interactions, not influenced by missing assignments or poor quiz performances. I understand the interest students have in their own grades, I just don't focus on them. I have goals and objectives for us during the semester and I put my energy in to doing those things. At some point, the numbers say something -- hopefully something you're happy with and proud of.
Anyway, my first point is the grades are finished. My bigger point is that I had a fantastic first semester at Pomona High School. Thank you to all of the staff and administrators who made me feel at home. Of course, the biggest thanks goes to all of you (the students). It has been a pleasure to be a part of your education journey these past few months. There is only a little while left in your high school lives. It's going to go by very quickly, so enjoy every moment -- starting with the next couple of weeks off. Have fun, be safe, tell your friends/family you love them, and perhaps read something. (I'll pause for laughter.)
