Qualitative Research Assignment
In this unit, we will be reading the classic novel, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. In the story, the narrator feels like he is unseen by society, even though he lives within the community. With that idea in mind, we will be working on a research essay about a group, a population, or individuals who are “invisible” in our midst. Many of the suggested topics below are social justice-related, but the assignment is open to virtually any group that is perceived (by you) as under-represented or misunderstood. One of the questions in the research assignment is to make a case for how this population is “invisible” and what suggested steps can be taken to rectify that. You DO NOT need to choose from this list, it is merely a selection of topic suggestions:
Step 1: Research a Topic (week of January 18-22) Step 2: Write and Turn in Annotated Bibliography of Three Sources (January 29) Step 3: Write and Turn in Qualitative Research Essay (February 26) Essay prompt: What group of people do you feel is invisible to the general population? Who are they, how are they under-represented or misunderstood, and what steps could be done to raise their visibility? -Weekly Corrections
